Holiday romance? Not likely!
British tourists on holiday are unlikely to have a holiday romance – despite the way they are often portrayed, according to a survey. A poll of some 4,000 visitors to the Daily Telegraph Adventure Travel and Sports Show showed that 67 per cent of adults have never had a holiday romance – and that nearly 75 per cent would not consider “going on holiday for sex or romance”. Specifically, the Telegraph reports, 34 per cent of 18- to 29-year-olds had been “romantically involved” on holiday, compared to 27 per cent of 30- to 50-year-olds and 28 per cent of over-50s. And of those who had indulged in foreign liaisons, some 60 per cent described them as “flings”. Martin Anslow, organiser of the exhibition, said the results of the survey showed that Britons were booking holidays while in search of more than “romance and sexual entanglements”: “People are getting more adventurous. Adventure activities such as trekking and rafting are no longer just for young travellers.” The Adventure Travel and Sports Show will be held at Olympia from 14 to 16 January.
