Holland America’s exotic offerings
Holland America Line introduced several new active shore excursions for 2005.
The new excursions are in several destinations such as Mexico, Chile and Brazil.
One of them involves the 10-day Sea of Cortez voyage, which goes to the Mexican Riviera. Passengers can board a private train on the Chihuahua al Pacifco railway and cross the Sierra Madre Mountains to explore the Copper Canyon, which is four times the size of the Grand Canyon but only attracts several thousand visitors a year because of its remoteness. The train trip winds through 87 tunnels and crosses 35 bridges.
Another trip, offered to passengers on the eight-day Latin America Holiday cruise aboard the Ryndam, involves a jungle adventure in Cozumel, Mexico. Guests will travel into the jungle to explore ancient Mayan burial grounds.
Passengers who sail on the Vendam’s 33-day Fall Panama Canal cruise can visit Amazon rain forests.
The excursions are provided through Holland American partnerships with independent tour operators in each port.
