Hotels go back to basics to please Road Warriors
Hoteliers should not rule out simple necessities such as comfortable pillows and good coffee, are among implications of recent surveys of road warriors who were asked what they wanted from hotels.
"Good pillows are a priority and often hard to come by," business traveler Doug Guenett told USA Today. "And good coffee can change the experience.”
Their survey showed that welcome mat items of former basics such as hot showers and decent beds are no longer acceptable to business travelers. But travelers in a survey cited such basic and comfortable items as what they had when staying at home such as comfortable surroundings, newspaper delivery, and microwaves.
The top wanted item, however, was technological: wireless internet access, preferably free.
Other top vote-getters: airport shuttles, hotel parking and the ability to check in early.
Other desirable amenities included television listings.
"Hotels seem to be a bit lax in providing a listing of the TV channels they offer," said Doug Mapson, a baseball scout who lives in Chandler, Ariz.
