Iberia flights cancelled due to pilot strike
Spanish airline Iberia cancelled more than a third of its flights yesterday due to a pilot strike.
The airline said 118 domestic and international flights had been cancelled but passengers affected by the one-day strike had been found seats on other Iberia flights or other carriers.
Pilots were striking over fears there will be job losses when Iberia starts its new budget carrier, see previous story. They also staged a one-day strike on 18 December.
Iberia plans to divert jetliners from money-losing domestic and medium-haul European routes for Iberia Express, which it hopes to launch early next year using lower-earning, newly hired pilots and flight attendants.
The company says its plans are for this carrier to have 40 planes in 2015.
