IHG joins ‘5,000 club’ with opening of New York hotel

Tuesday, 13 Jan, 2016 0
InterContinental Hotels Group’s opening of the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side in New York this week was a landmark occasion – becoming its 5,000th hotel in operation.

The hotel is a joint venture between IHG and Brack Capital Real Estate and becomes the third Hotel Indigo in New York City.

"Reaching 5,000 open hotels is an incredible milestone for IHG. Over time we have built a leading portfolio of hotel brands and scale where it matters most. Alongside our network of owner relationships and powerful digital platforms, these remain the key drivers behind our consistently strong performance," said IHG CEO, Richard Solomons.

"The recent landmark openings that make up our ‘5,000 club’ also demonstrate the momentum behind our brand portfolio and our ability to increase our presence in the world’s most important growth markets."

IHG joins Wyndham and Choice Hotels International as the only other companies with a portfolio of 5,000 hotels or more.

Marriott International is also set to join the ‘5000 club’ when it closes its acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts later this year.

InterContinental also announced a new arrival, with the appointment of Michael Torres as vice president of corporate communications for the Americas region.

Torres joins from PepsiCo where he was senior director of global corporate communications and will be based in Atlanta.
