Independence Air flies into Chapter 11
Flyi is the latest airline to file for Chapter 11.
Flyi launched low-fare independence Air a year ago at Washington’s Dulles International Airport.
Flights will operate on their regular schedules and customers should not expect disruptions, said an airline spokesman.
The airline said it hoped a court-supervised auction will attract a new investor in the next two months.
Independence fares were as low as $29, but the airline’s planes were often half empty, said the Associated Press.
Flyi operated as a contract carrier for Delta and United until more than a year ago when it went independent.
The airline suffered from bad timing because of steeply rising fuel costs, executives said.
