IndiGo, Airbus seal biggest ever aircraft order
India airline IndiGo has just handed Airbus the largest-ever single aircraft order.
IndiGo will buy 500 A320 aircraft
It is worth $50 billion at list prices.
It is a ‘record for the biggest single purchase agreement in the history of commercial aviation,’ the plane maker said at the Paris Air Show.
IndiGo will take delivery of the single aisle aircraft from 2030 through 2035.
It brings the total number of Airbus planes on order for IndiGo to 1,330.
IndiGo is India’s biggest airline by market share.
The order tops rival Air India’s recent order of 470 Airbus and Boeing jets.
The order ‘fulfills a mission to continue to boost economic growth, social cohesion and mobility in India,” IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said
“An expanding economy and rising disposable incomes continue to add millions of first-time flyers to a booming aviation market.”
