IndiGo employee arrested for bomb hoax call
A customer service agent for India’s largest budget carrier IndiGo is under arrest after making a hoax bomb threat.
Kartik Madhav Bhat is alleged to have made a hoax call from his own mobile phone claiming a bomb was planted on a flight bound for Mumbai out of New Delhi Airport.
Bhat is employed by the airline at Pune Airport and said he wanted to take revenge on the airline after being reprimanded for poor performance, according to local media reports.
Before apprehending Bhat two Mumbai bound flights were checked at the airport before it was deemed to be a hoax.
"The call was placed from a number belonging to 23-year-old Indigo staffer, resident of Pune. The accused confessed his involvement in the case and was found to be serving IndiGo Airlines as a customer service officer at Pune airport," a police spokesman said.
"On sustained interrogation, the accused confessed that he had done this as an act of revenge as the airline had given him a verbal notice to improve his performance. He was reportedly depressed due to this and made this call out of frustration."
