IndiGo surpasses 1,000 flights a day milestone
India’s leading airline IndiGo reached a new milestone, chalking up 1,000 flights operated in a single day.
A flight last Friday departing Mumbai to Cochin became the 1,000th that day, a milestone reached for the first time ever in India.
"We are truly excited to achieve a 1,000-daily flights landmark," said IndiGo president Aditya Ghosh.
The same day IndiGo took delivery of its newest Airbus A-320 Neo aircraft, taking its fleet size to 150.
The airline is adding 448 new aircraft – 399 A320s and 49 ATRs by 2025, according to government data.
The India aviation industry as a whole will take delivery of about 900 new planes by then.
IndiGo now has a 40% market share in one of the world’s fastest growing aviation markets and has plans to increase that significantly.
It is eyeing a potential purchase of national flag carrier Air India’s flight operations.
