Indonesian travel mart to showcase rejuvenated Aceh region
The Indonesian annual travel fair, Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME) is scheduled this year for Banda Aceh, in North Sumatra, aimed at showcasing a region regenerated after the Asian Tsunami almost a decade ago.
Meity Robot, Chairwoman of TIME 2014 steering committee says it offers an ideal opportunity for the Aceh region to "establish itself as a global travel destination."
"Hosting TIME allows international buyers to take a closer look at products on offer and aid local tourism stakeholders in selling their products overseas," she said.
Taking place at Banda Aceh’s Hermes Palace Hotel on 23 – 26 October, TIME attracts top industry policy-makers, buyers and sellers of Indonesian tourism products and services.
The event is organized by the Indonesian Tourism Council in collaboration with the provincial government of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
It is also supported by Indonesia’s ministry of tourism, national carrier Garuda Indonesia, the Association of Indonesian Tours & Travel Agencies and the Indonesian Conference and Convention Association.
"TIME offers a good opportunity for us to promote tourism attractions available in Aceh to international markets as well as widen business networks among domestic tourism players and international buyers," said head of culture and tourism for Banda Aceh, Reza Fahlevi.
Banda Aceh is now a visa-on-arrival entry point and served by international flights from Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia.
