Inn receives Florida Green Lodging Certification

Saturday, 15 Mar, 2007 0

The small but comfortable 17-unit Steinhatchee River Inn recently became the 21st lodging facility in Florida to be awarded the Green Lodging Certification from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The Inn was recognized for its efforts in conserving natural resources and practicing sustainability.

Steinhatchee River Inn’s green initiatives include the use of timers and sensor lighting throughout the property to promote energy efficiency, the installation of low flow faucets and showerheads to conserve water, the use of environmentally preferable cleaners, and the annual cleaning of air handler units and coils.

The property also follows a preventive maintenance schedule and practices bulk purchasing methods.  Staff minimizes waste by using a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content for paper products, and by recycling paper and aluminum.

Housekeeping also utilizes a towel and linen reuse program.

Steinhatchee River Inn hopes to further their green momentum by installing drip irrigation, replacing outdated appliances with Energy Star units, conducting recycling practices for glass and plastic, and installing high efficiency air filters for PTAC units.

The voluntary, non-regulatory Green Lodging Program works with Florida’s lodging industry to reduce waste and minimize pollution.
