Iowa family died of toxic gas inhalation in Mexico condo
A family of four found dead last week on vacation in Mexico are thought to have died from the inhalation of toxic gases inside their condo.
Mexican authorities said asphyxiation caused by inhalation of toxic gases was the cause but did not specify whether this was carbon monoxide or another toxic gas.
The family were staying in the rented vacation condo near Tulum.
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s office said there were no signs of foul play or suicide and determined the cause of a death after post-mortem examination.
It said Kevin Sharp, 41, Amy Sharp, 38, and children, Sterling and Adrianna died up to two days before they ere discovered.
An alarm had been raised after they failed to return home on their scheduled flight.
Examinations indicated the cause to be hypoxia, or lack of oxygen.
Members of their family had already contacted local police and filed a missing persons report after they failed to arrive home.
