ITM enviromental awards open for submissions
Submissions have opened for the first environmental awards for business travel suppliers.
The awards are the final part of the first phase of Project ICARUS, established by the Institute of Travel Management last year to promote carbon reduction in travel management programmes across the business travel industry.
The announcement follows the launch of a new scheme that allows travel buyers to apply for accreditation for their carbon reduction initiatives.
A panel of eight academics and environment specialists, chaired by Dr Keith Mason of Cranfield University, will judge the ITM’s ICARUS Environmental Awards, which will be announced by webcast on October 15.
Overseeing the ceremony will be representatives from the Airline Environmental Federation and Cambridge University who are working on the ICARUS Advisory Group as part of the funding conditions presented by government to ITM.
There are seven award categories – Air, Rail, Hotel, Ground Transportation, Agency (TMC and HBA), Technology Provider and Consultancy. The latter applies to other organisations both within the travel and environmental sectors that are helping organisations to reduce CO2 from travel programmes.
ITM executive director Paul Tilstone said: “The panel will evaluate products and services that are clearly helping to reduce CO2 emissions from travel programmes. Entrants must show leadership in their sector, innovation, that the service is both transferable and scaleable to companies of different sizes. Each entry will need to provide case studies and demonstrate how they are tackling the environment internally within their companies.”
The announcement of winners by webcast will also ensure a “virtually carbon-free” set of awards, according to the ITM.
The winning companies will be able to sit on the ITM ICARUS Advisory Group for 12 months. Each winning company will be authorised by ITM to display a virtual ICARUS award on their internal and external communications
