Its Mardi Gras time: Bus groups get caught up in the revelry
The Shreveport Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureaus tourism department is coordinating their second annual Mardi Gras Bash for the upcoming Mardi Gras season. This party is designed to attract group tour buses who are interested in attending the Mardi Gras parade in a closed, controlled environment.
Up from just one parade last year, the Mardi Gras Bash will include both major parades in Shreveport-Bossier City: Krewe of Centaur Parade on Saturday, Feb. 10 and Krewe of Gemini Parade Saturday, Feb. 17.
More than 25 bus groups with over 1,000 attendees have already reserved their spots for this rockin’ tent party located along the route of two of the largest Mardi Gras parades in the South. At a cost of $15 per person, attendees will savor authentic Louisiana cuisine, dance to Cajun tunes, see outrageous Mardi Gras personalities, and, of course, catch some beads!
Mardi Gras in Shreveport-Bossier City, La. has it all. Nonstop fun. Ball pageantry. Great parades. Come, experience it! We promise you won’t leave as you came, especially if you fill your neck and bags with some of the 8 million beads that will be tossed over the two major parade weekends.
“Mardi Gras is such a long running tradition in Shreveport-Bossier City and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger with more throws, wilder themes and greater parties,” said Betty Jo LeBrun-Mooring, a krewe member of Centaur.
Centaur’s parade was named a Top 100 Event in 2005 by the American Bus Association. This year’s parade will be held Feb. 10. It is the largest Mardi Gras celebration in the Ark-La-Tex region and along with the Krewe of Gemini parade, Feb. 17, the major parades will attract almost a half million visitors.
“The thing that makes Shreveport-Bossier City Mardi Gras so special and unique is that we do know how to have a good party, but we are sensitive to the families and work diligently to keep it safe for adults and children,” said Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau.
The parade route has a family zone that prohibits alcohol. There are no other parades in Louisiana that offer this.
