ITT defends record of achievement
Institute of Travel & Tourism president Trevor Harding catalogued the association’s achievements and had a dig at ABTA’s conference format in his opening remarks in Barbados.
The ITT has been criticised by some members for being a ‘boys’ club’ but Harding, speaking at the start of the 2005 conference, claimed it was a productive organisation.
“We’ve got a sell out event again, following a highly successful event in Qatar last year, and we held our second Aspire conference in Liverpool, for people new to the industry or those aspiring to join.”
He added that recent ITT Odyssey suppers, with guest speakers John Donnelly and David Speakman, had been a success and revealed the association would soon unveil an insurance training package for the whole industry.
Harding claimed the ITT’s conference was more forward thinking than the ABTA Convention.
“I’m delighted that ABTA is changing the format of its conference to look at the bigger picture. We’ve been doing that for some years.”
Earlier, Federation of Tour Operators director general Andy Cooper was among those who described the ITT as a “boys’ club with some useful discussions.”
