JAL increasing flights to Guam
Japan Airlines plans to increase flight frequency to Guam with a second daily flight from Tokyo Narita.
The additional flight begins from March 25, 2018.
"Japan is important to Guam and has been our No. 1 visitor market," said Guam Visitors Bureau board chairman Milton Morinaga.
"As we celebrate 50 years since the first flight from Japan arrived on Guam, I want to thank our friends from Japan for these 50 years of friendship."
It is a timely boost for the tourism market after Delta Air Lines recently announced a pull-out of Guam and United Airlines said it is cutting back on Japan-Guam flights due to ‘sharp decline’ in demand.
Although tourism arrivals are up overall, Japan’s market share is well down and accounted for just 30% last month.
That contrasts with about 80% of all international arrivals several years ago and Japan has now been overtaken by South Korea.
Guam officials and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol are also working with Tokyo Narita to implement pre-clearance immigration processing at the airport.
