Japanese tourist murdered in Turkey
A 22-year old Japanese tourist was stabbed to death and her friend was seriously wounded by knife-wielding attackers at a UNESCO World Heritage site in central Turkey.
The Japanese embassy said it did not know if the attack was related to the choice of Tokyo over Istanbul as the venue of the 2020 Olympic Games over the weekend.
The 22-year-old women were attacked on Monday in Cappadocia, a site famous for its ancient underground cities and volcanic rock formations, southeast of Ankara.
The women were students at Japan’s Niigata University.
They were found by another tourist passing by.
