JetBlue founder ‘humiliated and mortified’ by travel breakdowns
Reports from the US say that David Neeleman, Low Cost Carrier guru and CEO and founder of discount carrier JetBlue has been devastated by the airline’s failure to manage its operation during its operational ”meltdown “ on Valentines Day.
The discount carrier still cancelled almost a quarter of its flights as it scrambled to recover from the massive logistical disaster it suffered on Valentine’s Day, with the Neeleman telling The New York Times that he is “humiliated and mortified” by the breakdown in operations last week.
David Neeleman has blamed poor communication and reservation systems, saying that the winter storm left many of the airline’s pilots and flight attendants far from where they could operate the planes and also there were too few trained staffers to coordinate flight crews.
Neeleman promises the company will pay penalties if customers were stranded on a plane for too long.
