JetBlue is launching its longest flight yet, linking New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport with Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The 2,900-mile route kicks off on December 5, 2019 operated by new A321neo planes.

JetBlue takes delivery of the first of these next month.

The airline also serves Guayaquil as well as Quito from its Florida hub at Fort Lauderdale.

"The introduction of the A321neo to our fleet opens up a world of new possibilities as we think about the future of our growing network," said Andrea Lusso, JetBlue director of route planning.

JetBlue will be facing off against LATAM Airlines which also flies the route daily.

The carrier currently has 72 A321neos and 13 A321LRs on order.

Guayaquil is the Ecuadorean gateway city to beaches of the Pacific coast and the Galapagos Islands.

Spirit Airlines also serves the city from Fort Lauderdale.
