JetBlue launching seasonal Portland-Alaska flights
JetBlue will add more capacity at Portland, with a fourth nonstop route from Oregon, to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
The new seasonal route will fly daily between June 18 and September 8, 2015 using Airbus A320 jets.
JetBlue will pit itself directly against Alaska Airlines which also operates on the route.
In a competitive move to protect its market share, Alaska Airlines immediately dropped one-way fares on the Anchorage-Portland route from $170 to $118.
This is in response to JetBlue’s announcement of introductory one-way fares from $99, valid for booking until January 13.
JetBlue’s other destinations from Portland are Boston, New York JFK and Long Beach, CA.
"Following the success with our seasonal service from Anchorage to Los Angeles’ Long Beach and Seattle, we are excited to expand in the Pacific Northwest with this new Portland-Anchorage service," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue SVP – airline planning.
