Jetstar Pacific culls Vietnam flights
Budget carrier Jetstar Pacific is suspending flights on two domestic routes in Vietnam from November 15, citing the need for maintenance work.
The Hanoi-Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City-Hue services are expected to resume next year, local media reported.
The carrier is expected to send one aircraft for overseas maintenance every month between November and May 2012, VnExpress reported.
Jetstar Pacific, an offshoot of Qantas Airways’ budget subsidiary Jetstar, is reportedly close to an ownership shake-up.
The Vietnamese government is tipped to transfer a 70 percent stake in Jetstar Pacific to flag carrier Vietnam Airlines. Qantas is expected to increase its holding from 27 percent to 30 percent.
Jetstar Pacific has had a tough time in Vietnam, with observers blaming interference by the national carrier. A deal to involve Vietnam Airlines taking majority ownership is seen as the best way forward for the Qantas subsidiary.
