Jetstar unveils international plans
Jetstar will fly to six destinations from three Australian cities when it begins its long haul international operation in November.
The low fare carrier’s initial long haul network will take in Bangkok, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Osaka, Bali and Honolulu.
It will operate a total of nine international routes directly from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane from November 23.
The airline plans rapid expansion following its international launch, according to Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon.
“Jetstar will over the next four years develop a significant international network to a large number of Australian and overseas destinations,” Mr Dixon said.
“As part of the Qantas Group strategy to focus on two strong brands in the future, Jetstar’s international flying business will be grown aggressively, whilst complementing further expanding Qantas international operations.
“Importantly Jetstar’s international network will grow mainly on inbound markets into Australia, providing new opportunities for Australian tourism.”
Jetstar will offer a two class service including ‘StarClass’, which will compare similarly to a Qantas domestic business class seat.
A launch sale for fares booked by July 28 will include seats to Bali from Melbourne or Sydney from $169 one-way.
“Our every day low fares will similarly take Jetstar into a price leadership position in international leisure markets, with clear benefits for both Australian travellers and the Australian tourism industry,” Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said.
