Kata and Karon buzzing!
A radio stations report in Thailand says that Kata and Karon beaches today are getting more and more vibrant, with beaches busy as are hotels, guesthouses, tour companies and beach or water activities.
Karon is the second largest of Phuket’s principal tourist beaches, with a slightly curving beach that is long and broad, but not very shady.
The southern end has a fine coral reef stretching around the small headland into Kata Yai and Pu Island and it has been developed with a number of mid-range resorts, most set well back from the shore by the beachroad.
According to Jirasak Ta-na-kit-ti-tham, manager of Kata Karon Hotel’s Business Association, at present 33 hotels are registered as its members with around 5,000 rooms. He however explained, “With non members and new hotel and guest houses being constructed, the Kata – Karon area houses approximately 8,000 rooms in total”.
”The Kata Karon Hotel’s Business Association is strong and active with a clear mission of promoting the beaches for families and beach activities”.
”That suits Karon quite well as it has a proud reputation for environmental consciousness, and as a haven for families and couples who are looking for relaxation. Both beaches however have a slower pace than Patong”.
The recent take over of Felix hotel by Thai based Destination Properties with approximately 350 million baht investment, will convert the 125 room property into the first Ramada resort in Phuket, with a family feel & theme suitable for the location as Gary Murray their Chief Executive Officer of the company reaffirmed with this new property acquired by company just one day after Thailand’s political transition indicating investment confidence in the country, especially in the tourism sector.
Meanwhile the Kata- Karon Hotel’s Operator Association are working hard on creating activities to attract tourists to the areas, with the next sports events being the Beach Mountain marathon from Karon to Promthep on 22nd October, then the World Tour Beach Volleyball Tournament on Karon Beach from the 1st to the 5th November.
With the high season coming up, operators are hoping for, “A vibrant tourism atmosphere will continue for these beaches and hopefully another good year for local tourism operators”.
