Kathmandu under curfew
The Nepalese capital Kathmandu is this morning under curfew following demonstrations after the murder of 12 Nepalis in Iraq.
The world’s media yesterday reported that the 12 workers were killed in Iraq, with one man being beheaded and the rest shot.
According to the BBC News website, many Nepali citizens are blaming the government for the crisis, and that mosques, government offices and airline headquarters have been attacked.
In response, the website reports, riot police have been using batons and tear gas to control the angry crowds.
The BBC reports that thousands of protestors have taken to the streets, and that the security forces have been “struggling to control the situation”.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has not yet updated its advice for Nepal, in light of the reported curfew.
