Kings Dominion prepares for 40th anniversary
Kings Dominion will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year with "many surprises, the return of classic park icons and a chance to create new traditions and memories with your family."
The central piece of the 40th Celebration of the park and safari north of Richmond, VA, will be the introduction of Ruby, a custom-painted 40th Celebration horse that will be added to the park’s historic carousel, which dates back to 1917.
The carousel has operated at Kings Dominion since the park opened in 1975.
Back from the past will be a completely restored iconic International Street fountain; Candy Apple Grove, one of the park’s original classic midways, with its oversized candy apples; Safari Village (formerly the Congo), with newly improved to Volcano: The Blast Coaster and the Anaconda roller coaster; as well as the classic blue ice cream that was a hit with families for decades.
Visitors are also invited to share memories of Kings Dominion and be a part of the celebration by posting pictures and stories on Twitter using the hashtag #KD40.
The park’s 40th Celebration website will include historical facts, photos and videos, along with interviews with former General Managers and other park associates and the latest announcements regarding this once in a lifetime celebration.
Kings Dominion will open for its 40th season on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
Season passes are now available for the lowest price of the year online at www.kingsdominion.com for as low as nine easy payments of just $9.
Guests purchasing a 2014 Gold or Platinum Season Pass will receive one free visit this fall.
