Kiwis see Qantas fuel surcharge as a publicity stunt
The Consumers Institute says Air New Zealand is being unfairly singled out over fuel levies, with the airline saying it has no plans to cut its surcharge, although Qantas is reducing its levy for domestic and trans-Tasman flights from next week.
David Russell from the New Zealand Consumers Institute says that the Qantas move is marketing hype aimed at grabbing some free publicity, adding that what is most important is to look at the true cost of getting from point A to point B.
However Mr Russell says the publicity could prove damaging to Air New Zealand if it continues to sit on its hands.
