KLM given go ahead for Martinair purchase
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will become the new owner of Martinair on December 31.
It already owned 50% of the airline and has now been given permission by the European Commission to buy the remaining 50% from LM and the A.P. Moller/Maersk Group.
KLM president and CEO Peter Hartman said: “The airline industry in general is experiencing turbulence, Martinair in particular.
“With the European Commission approval, economies of scale and synergies become available. Plans for the future of Martinair within the Group will be developed in the coming period."
