Korean Air unveils big loyalty programme revamp
Korean Air is giving its loyalty programme a revamp with a slew of changes coming next year.
SkyPass members will be able to use a combination of cash and miles for reward tickets starting from November 2020.
A new SkyPass elite membership tier system will be introduced in 2022 featuring four levels – silver, gold, platinum and diamond with tiers determined based on the previous year’s activity.
The Silver level is for members accruing just 10,000 miles or more on Korean Air or 10 qualifying flights, while Platinum is for 70,000 miles or more.
Currently there are three tiers – Morning Calm, Morning Calm Premium and Million Miler.
Mileage redemption rates will be calculated differently, based on eleven segment zones determined by flight distance.
Separately to this update, the airline last week approved a same-sex couple to combine their accrued miles into a family account.
The female couple were granted a SkyPass family membership after producing a Canadian marriage certificate, even though same-sex marriage is illegal in Korea.
