LA protests spark new travel warning

The UK Foreign Office issued a new travel warning to exercise extreme caution in and around Los Angeles.
Tensions have been at fever pitch since the weekend amid wide scale anti-immigration protests.
“Demonstrations and protests are taking place in Los Angeles. Media reports suggest the police response has included use of flash-bangs, tear gas, pepper balls, and rubber/sponge bullets,” the new advisory said.
Travellers are urged to follow the advice of the local authorities, plan ahead to avoid disruption and stay away from crowds and demonstrations.
Nation Guard troops and US Marines have been deployed on the streets.
“The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom.
