Lake Tahoe wins — again — for skiing

Saturday, 29 Nov, 2010 0

For the third consecutive year, Lake Tahoe was named No. 1 in early season travel bookings by Orbitz. Why?

“The compelling combination of reliable early season conditions, the most affordable stay-and-ski packages in the country, discounted airfare available into Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RTIA) and the quality of the winter vacation experience assuredly helped secure this top ranking,” according to the resort.

RTIA was also recently acknowledged as the number one airport in the nation in adding new flights including additional service from Houston, Denver, Phoenix and the East Coast. The recently remodeled airport now offers 72 daily departures to 15 non-stop cities and one-stop service to almost anywhere in the world.

Last season the region reported the second busiest season on record thanks to impressive snowfall totals nearing the 600 inch mark. This trend looks to continue for the 2010-11 winter season with long range forecasters calling for above normal snowfall totals resulting in another sizeable snowpack for the northern portion of the Sierra Nevada.

There are seven resorts that make up Ski Lake Tahoe. They are Alpine Meadows, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort and Squaw Valley USA. Lake

Tahoe boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year and the region has some of the highest annual snowfall totals in North America. The seven resorts are all located less than an hour from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
