Jet2.com plans to serve “more adventurous” destinations after adding two Boeing 757s to its fleet.

The airline is to base the 228-passenger 757-200s at Leeds-Bradford airport. It claims to be the first low cost carrier in Europe to acquire Boeing 757-200s.

Chief executive Philip Meeson indicated that further 757s would be added to the fleet which up until now has been made up of 24 Boeing 737-300s. But he declined to be drawn on what new routes could be available with the longer range aircraft.

The 148-passenger Boeing 737s operate mainly to continental Europe from the airline’s five bases in the north of England and Northern Ireland – Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Blackpool and Belfast.

Meeson said in a statement: “These new B757-200 aircraft will help us to grow our passenger numbers to our most popular destinations and in addition they will allow us to serve more adventurous routes in the future.”
