Las Vegas hosts 20th International Tourism Safety Conference
The International Tourism Safety Association, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Las Vegas Security Chiefs Association will host the 20thInternational Tourism Safety Conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center on April 22-24.
The International Tourism Safety Conference is a gathering for safety and security officials in the travel and tourism industry focused on providing delegates with new information, trends, equipment, strategies and best practices in keeping visitors safe. The conference is expected to attract more than 200 people.
On Tuesday, April 23, the opening session at 9 a.m. will focus on the state of tourism security in the United States, which will include a discussion on the current events in Boston, Massachusetts. The closing session on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. will also discuss the Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath.
"Providing a safe and secure experience for visitors must be a top priority for any city’s tourism industry," said Ray Suppe, president of International Tourism Safety Association and director of security for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. "The LVCVA and Las Vegas are proud to have organized this conference for the past 20 years in order to share the latest strategies and information between others in the tourism industry to help ensure the safety of visitors in destinations and attractions here in Las Vegas and around the world."
The conference will also feature presentations addressing issues such as tourism safety tactics used in other countries, major events security, assessing risk, tourism fraud, safeguarding international and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender visitors. Speakers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Israel Police, Australia’s Tourism Safety Group, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and others will share their expertise.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Sheriff Douglas C. Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are scheduled to address the group on Tuesday, April 23. The Sheriff will give opening remarks at 8:45 a.m. with the Mayor speaking at noon.
