Lastminute reports rise in late Easter sun bookings
Turkey and Greece were the most popular destinations for a late Easter sunshine break on Lastminute.com.
The online agent said bookings for the two destinations were up 22% and 15% respectively on the same period last year and significantly up on the same period the previous week.
Bodrum and Antalya were particular popular in Turkey while Kos, Corfu and Rhodes were the hotspots in Greece.
Lastminute said other destinations experiencing an increase in late Easter bookings include Dubai, Egypt’s Red Sea resorts including Sharm-el Sheikh, Palma and Tenerife.
UK managing director John Bevan said: “The unusually cold weather has led to incredible demand for late Easter sun holidays.
“Traffic and bookings were exceptional over the Easter weekend, particularly for bookings throughout April when many schools are on a belated Easter break.
“With Easter falling earlier than normal this year, families have realised it could be their last chance for a break before the end of the school term.”
