Legless man finds way to protest this fee
Bilateral leg amputee Socorro Jabora chose to drawn down the plane’s ramp at Singapore’s Changi airport rather than paying a $250 fee to hire a wheelchair lift, according to eGlobal Travel media.
The airline, Cebu Pacific, is the country’s largest.
The passenger claimed the airline failed to inform her about the fee, while the airline allegedly blamed Jabora’s predicament on the travel agent who arranged her flight.
"The burden is on Cebu Pacific and all other airlines to ensure the safety and convenience of all their passengers, and they should be doubly attentive to the needs of PWDs [people with disabilities] who are flying with them," said Walden Bello, a representative of a group lobbying for people with disabilities.
In 2010, the airline was accused of discrimination after refusing to convey a "special child" on a flight "in line with a company policy of not allowing more than one mentally ill person at any given time on a plane."
