Libra in pledge to back agents
Libra Holiday, one of the largest independent tour operators, has confirmed it will retain its current levels of commission.
The operator predicted it will not be uncompetitively priced in the peak post Christmas period and urged retailers to use their commission to discount if they needed to.
Sales and marketing director Paul Riches described a policy of reducing commission as “high risk.”
“We are that bit cheaper than Thomson anyway so we believe we can cope with any price decrease we may see in their brochures,” said sales and marketing director Paul Riches. “We are already talking to agents about January discounts.”
But Riches admitted that even if Libra had wanted to, it was in no position to reduce its rates of pay.
“We don’t have our own retail network and we are not guaranteed distribution by anyone,” he said.
