Lightning strike causes Eurostar delays
Hundreds of Eurostar passengers were stranded last night after a lightning strike in Kent hit power in the Channel Tunnel.
The lightning triggered a fire at a building close to the entrance of the tunnel at around 8pm.
Eurostar was forced to close down the track until the fire was under control.
As a result, one train on its way to Paris was returned to London and three others heading for London were "severely delayed."
Several hundred passengers were delayed for up to four and a half hours.
Eurostar kept customers updated on Twitter and offered taxis and hotels where required.
It said operations were back to normal today.
