London-based Turkish tourism appoints two new directors

The London-based Turkish Culture & Tourism Office has appointed two new directors as it claims to be entering a ‘new and dynamic phase in Turkish tourism’.

Dr. Aysegul Gurgezoglu was deputy director at London’s Turkish Culture & Tourism office 2009-2012, and Ali Selcuk Can has previously been an internal auditor for the Ministry of Culture & Tourism based in Turkey.

The appointments come after Turkey reported visitor numbers were affected in June when weeks of anti-government protests broke out in major cities.

After 13% growth in April and 18% growth in May, visitor arrivals in June rose by just 4.93% year on year, data  from the tourism ministry recently showed.

The tourism office said Turkey is one of the fastest developing tourist destinations in the world and more news and developments will follow in the upcoming weeks.

Director Ali Selcuk Can said: "We want to encourage people to approach travel to Turkey from different angles; such as visiting Istanbul this autumn for its acclaimed arts biennial or to enjoying international golf in the south coast during the Turkish Open in November."
