The launch of the programme for the London 2012 Festival has unwrapped a 12-week nationwide celebration bringing together leading artists from across the world with the best of British talent.

The festival of the world’s best music, theatre, dance, visual art, literature, film and fashion will open on Midsummer’s Day, June 21, and run until September 9, with events taking plans all across the UK.

Visit Britain says the London 2012 Festival will celebrate “the huge range, quality and accessibility of the UK’s world-class culture, and give the opportunity for people across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games”.

Events will be spread from the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, to Shetland Islands, Lake Windermere, Stonehenge, forests of North Wales and many places in between.

For information on how to access tickets, including free tickets, people are encouraged to sign up to the London 2012 Festival website www.london2012.com/festival.

A programme of free events is being planned for all 33 London boroughs.
