Machu Picchu hotel undergoes makeover
The hotel at the foot of World Heritage site, Machu Picchu, is undergoing a million dollar makeover inspired by an increasing number of luxury tourists.
The Sumaq Machu Picchu hotel in Peru will refurb its rooms and public areas over the next 18 months, starting next month. All bedrooms will be finished by May 2015.
The hotel owners said they were motivated by a growing interest in travel to Machu Picchu by travellers seeking sophistication and luxury.
Managing director Anibal Clavijo said: "We are investing over $1 million to ensure guests visiting the great once Royal retreat of Machu Picchu can themselves retreat to a place of luxury to rest, relax and be pampered."
