Malaysia hotel ceiling collapses, injures two guests
Two guests were injured in Malaysia when the ceiling of their hotel room suddenly caved in overnight.
A family of three were sleeping in their room at the Avillion Hotel in the resort of Port Dickson when the ceiling abruptly collapsed at about 4am.
Two adults suffered minor injuries, while their son escaped unhurt.
"We are still investigating the cause of the incident. At the moment, we can’t rule out bad weather as a contributing factor," said local fire chief Razif Mohd Haris.
"The victims were sent to Hospital Port Dickson for treatment."
However the fire department’s director Norazam Khamis says there is a suspicion a rooftop water heater exploding may be the cause and no other guest rooms are affected.
The Avillion Hotel Group said via a Facebook post it ‘deeply regrets the incident’ and has closed down that hotel block as a precaution while investigations continue.
"We are working closely with authorities and our in-house structural engineers will be joining in the investigation," the hotel said.
