Malta rolls out agent training for over-50s market
With Malta set to reopen in June before all British residents have received a vaccination, the holiday island is doubling down on a key demographic.
Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has developed and launched a training course for travel agents, which is dedicated to serving the 50+ market.
With the UK showing great progress in vaccinating its nine priority groups from Covid-19, including those aged 50 and over, the vaccinated mature traveller is likely to have more confidence to travel.
The course has six lessons available for travel agents including an introduction, ‘Where to Stay’, ‘Dining Out’, ‘Venture Out and About’, ‘Events Calendar’ and ‘Recommended Itineraries’.
Travel agents will learn about the diverse gastronomy options whilst also familiarising themselves with the many historic sites and experiences on Malta and sister islands.
The course provides various tools that travel advisors can share with their clients including an events calendar and recommended itineraries.
The Malta Tourism Authority is offering agents who complete all of the modules by 14 May 2021 the chance to win one of ten Maltese Gastronomy Goody Bags in a prize draw.
The bags include a selection of delicious Maltese ingredients, including olive oil, honey, liquor, pate, lemon syrup and tea leaves plus a notebook, pens and keyring.

Natalie Swinburne, Trade Marketing Manager, UK & Ireland said: "We have developed this training course as the Covid-19 vaccine will create more confidence among the 50+ market to plan and book future trips to Malta."
"However, the pandemic has changed the travel landscape, and even the savviest silver traveller may be more apprehensive when it comes to planning a trip, so the advice and reassurance that a travel agent can bring is vital."
"Now that Malta is reopening to travellers on 1 June 2021, we have also updated the ‘Reopening Course’ for agents, to include the most recent updates and protocols to ensure our trade partners are up to date on the latest entry and destination requirements," Swinburne added.
Travel agents can follow the latest updates on Malta’s trade information via the Visit Malta UK Trade Facebook group, at: https://www.facebook.com/VisitMaltaUKTrade
