Man admits ‘screwdriver’ travel agency thefts
A 49-year-old man is facing a prison sentence after he admitted to robbing six travel agencies in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire of a total of £73,000 using a screwdriver as a weapon.
Gary Gilboy of Liverpool pleaded guilty in court in Stoke-on-Trent to all six counts of robbery.
His case was adjourned for sentencing.
Gilboy raided Co-op Travel agencies in Leek, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Buxton, Althams Travel branches in Nelson and Colne and The Co-operative Travel in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
Most of the robberies took place between March and July this year, but the latest one, in Hanley, occurred earlier this month and led to Gilboy’s arrest.
