Man bitten by violent passenger on BA flight

A 21-year-old man was arrested on a British Airways flight after becoming violent and then allegedly biting a fellow passenger.

Metropolitan police confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and being drunk on board an aircraft and that an injured passenger received medical assistance for a minor injury at the scene.

The injured passenger had been helping a female member of the crew deal with the aggressive passenger on the flight from Dubai to London Heathrow.

He posted pictures of his bitten arm on social media, including a picture of him in the cockpit where crew allowed him to sit following the incident.

Chris McNerlin wrote: "That time when you help restrain and handcuff a nutter at 40,000ft. He bites you, but it’s all OK because Captain Kendal lets you sit in the cockpit."

He also paid tribute to the crew on board.

BA said it could not comment on the incident at this time because a man has been arrested and bailed.

Airlines, airports and airline bodies, including the British Air Transport Association and Airport Operators Association, are working together to stamp out unruly behaviour by passengers.

Led by Jet2, a campaign has been launched to get the message to consumers that unruly behaviour onboard flights won’t be tolerated.

Jet2 says there has been a sharp rise in the number of incidents of unruly behaviour on flights, many of them alcohol related.
