Man struck by coaster ride at theme park
A 38-year-old man is in hospital in a critical condition after a Cincinnati theme park coaster incident.
He was hit by an inverted coaster ride, which can reach speeds of more than 60 mph.
Kings Island theme park management said the man was not a rider at the time and entered a restricted area without permission where the Banshee roller coaster was running.
According to a witness, the man had requested to get back on the ride as he had lost something.
After being told to wait, he apparently went through a restricted gate near the track area.
At some point the coaster struck the man, who received a ‘traumatic injury’ emergency personnel said.
The park says the Banshee is the world’s longest steel inverted roller coaster ride.
There were initially no reported injuries of guests riding the coaster at the time.
“Kings Island’s focus continues to be on the welfare of the guest and his family,” the theme park said.
The Banshee ride remains closed while an investigation is carried out.
