Marshals on US–to-Australia flights
Australia is reportedly ready to put armed air marshals on flights to and from the United States after months of diplomatic negotiating.
According to the BBC News website, the agreement will apply to Qantas and United Airlines services and will effectively double the size of Australia’s current air marshal scheme.
The BBC reports that as many as six marshals could be stationed on some services, though the number used will vary according to the size of the aircraft.
It goes on to state that the Australian government is also in negotiations with other countries, including Britain, Canada and Malaysia, regarding the possibility of allowing marshals on more international services.
