Meeting GDS prices
AgentWare in a recent internal study found their search tools met or beat the GDS price 86% of the time in US markets, according to D. N. Lockett, marketing manager.
In Canadian markets, the search tools, Travel Console and WebPoint, outperformed the GDS search tool 100% of the time.
Said Mr Lockett:
“While we suspected that air carriers reserved their best rates for the web, we were amazed by the huge disparity in pricing between websites and the GDS.”
He added that the company consistently displayed fares for sites that paid commissions to travel agents.
The average fare difference searching over 45 web sites exceeded $66 for round-trip
City pairs in the US. That cost exceeded $187 for round-trips in Canada.
Mr Lockett said research conclusions included:
—AgentWare beat the GDS low pricing tool in 64% of the US markets researched.
—The cost advantage in the US ranged from $88 for 14 days out to $343, two days out.
—The AgentWare cost advantage in Canada ranged from a maximum of $249 for 14 days out to $45, two days out.
—AgentWare also consistently displayed more fares and itinerary options.
The study compared 75 city pairs in the US and a dozen pairs in Canada.
Mr Lockett said the research dispels the myth that webfares are not a viable option for corporate travelers with last-minute travel needs.
