Melia Hotels International has signed an agreement for its fifth Thai hotel.

Melia is working with developer Phuket Villa Group on Melia Phuket Mai Khao which is slated to open in Phuket in 2021.

The resort sits overlooking the Andaman Sea in the relatively quiet north of the island and will have 101 villas, each with a private pool.

It will feature multiple F&B options, from an all-day dining restaurant, lobby lounge and pool bar.

"It’s absolutely thrilling news that we are expanding our footprint into Phuket with Melia Hotels & Resorts brand. While tourism continues to be the driving force in the Phuket economy, we’re well-poised to bring our extensive experience in the resort segment to one of the most desired destinations in Asia." said Bernardo Cabot Estarellas, <elia’s SVP of Asia Pacific.

Other amenities include two resort swimming pools, a signature YHI Spa, and meeting facilities.

Melia has 48 properties across seven Asian countries in operation or in the development pipeline.
