Mexican tourism is hot
Mexican tourism was up 10% in the first three quarters of this year compared to the same time last year, according to the Mexican Tourism Board.
The 10 percent jump in tourism numbers equates to more than 15 million foreign visitors to Mexico during the first nine months of 2004, said the Mexican Tourism Board.
Grupo Posadas, Mexico’s largest hotel company, plans a healthy expansion to help meet the newcomers. The chain has says it plans to build 35 new properties and more than 3,800 rooms in the next three years. The company now controls 69 hotels, representing 13,128 rooms, in Mexico, and additional properties in the United States and Latin America.
During third quarter 2004 alone, Grupo Posadas added four new properties, with 542 rooms, under its Fiesta Inn flag. Sites included Villahermosa, Mexicali, San Luis Potosi and Nogales.
The company owns five brands: Fiesta Americana Grand, Fiesta Americana, Fiesta Inn, Caesar Business, Caesar Park and The Explorean, a luxury adventure resort.
The company next year plans to open its Fiesta Americana Grand Aqua, a luxury hotel with 371 ocean view rooms and suites with extensive spa services that will also offer fine dining.
