MGM to close two more hotels during mid-week
MGM Resorts International has announced more hotel properties will reduce operating hours to weekends only, as Nevada entered a three-week ‘pause’ to help contain surging Covid infections.
Hotel operations at Mandalay Bay and Mirage will close down mid-week through late December, the company said.
It follows similar moves taken at Park MGM and NoMad.
"While we do not currently expect the mid-week hotel closures to remain past December, we will continue evaluating business levels to determine how long they are in effect," MGM said.
The hotels will close between noon Monday and noon Thursday each week but hotel facilities such as restaurants will remain open.
The changes take effect on 30 November.
Hospitality firms are braced for a less than satisfactory Thanksgiving holiday in Las Vegas.
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered a three-week pause by scaling back hospitality business operations due to a spike in Covid-19 cases with reduced capacity at casinos, bars and restaurants.
That has led to a fall in room rates, with some dropping by more than half for the holiday period, after the CDC advised people not to travel unless necessary.
