Minister blames weather for immigration queues
The UK’s Border Force will ensure all immigration desks are fully staffed during the summer, Immigration minister Damian Green has told MPs.
Green made an emergency Commons statement on the lengthy immigration queues seen at Heathrow recently.
He said delays were caused mainly by severe weather disrupting flights.
Speaker John Bercow granted an urgent question to Commons Home Affairs Committee chairman Keith Vaz.
London Mayor Boris Johnson had earlier voiced his "serious concern" about the delays and how they damaged the reputation of the capital.
Several times last week delays were reported at immigration with some frustrated passengers storming past officials without showing their documents (see previous story).
